About Us

Most of us know ALS as Lou Gehrig’s disease, but it stands for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). It’s an insidious disease that takes away everything. ALS slowly destroys the connections between the brain and the muscles. In other words, ALS can strike anyone, at any time. It gradually robs people of the ability to speak, eat, walk, and eventually – to breathe. Most people with ALS experience total paralysis and death within five years of diagnosis.

ALS United Ohio is boots-on-the-ground throughout Ohio, Northern Kentucky, and Southeastern Indiana. 

ALS United Ohio provides one-on-one case management by licensed healthcare professionals, financial grants to reimburse disease-related expenses, loans of durable medical and home accessibility equipment, monthly support groups, newsletters, information, and referrals. The organization also works to raise public awareness of ALS, advocates at state and federal levels to bring about positive changes in public policy for the ALS community, and funds promising research to find treatments and cures for ALS.

We provide all programs and services FREE OF CHARGE, thanks to the generous contributions of individuals, businesses and foundations in the community. Donations, sponsorships, and grants are the organization’s sole source of revenue.
